The A&T four possessed an ideology that carried them to perform the sit in’s at Woolworth’s in 1960. Being young adults in 1960, they saw all of the terrors Blacks faced nationwide such as Emmett Till’s murder and Brown vs Board of Education. Being so conscious of these things, they decided to make a change and attempt to integrate downtown Greensboro Woolworth’s store. Being a young adult like the young men involved, I possess the same power by attempting to uplift against discrimination I regularly see. I lack the courage that the A&T four had, I often feel that the consequences are costly by defending civil rights. But I know that the long term results are plentiful, seen the same way that in the 1960s their long term consequences are seen by plentiful long term results that had made equality. I am willing to challenge the issue of systemic oppression and mass incarceration of minorities in the United States, I plan to attend college and even obtain my Doctoral’s in Criminology and undergraduate in Psychology to help with these issues.
